HISTORY COLLECTIVE MEETING

July 6, 2010

Meeting began at 6:30 at the Silver Lake library.

Present: Bob Herzog, Lynne Zuccaro, Patricia McGrath, Jennifer Palmer-?? and guest Melissa Potter, Silver Lake librarian.

Stair display for library:

Melissa had searched library resources for information related to the stairways and reviewed what she had found, including 2 other books about the stairs besides the Charles Fleming book.

Bob will bring stair map and Red-car map for display.

Charles Fleming will be out of town but will do a book- signing.

Patricia suggested SLHC & the library link with Citibank for a display. The meeting agreed; Pat will talk to Citibank.

Laura could not attend meeting thus no report her stair-related research.

Jennifer mentioned that there is a monthly Echo Park stair walk.

Other display subjects:

We had a wide ranging discussion/brainstorm about other subjects including

Glendale Blvd before freeway – documentary exists.

Construction of the Silver Lake Library – before, during, after construction.

Various approaches to architects/architecture of Silver Lake.

Interviews:

Patricia and Bob Eric Lloyd Wright still on hold.

Bob met with Alejandro Betancourt, a journalist, who is interested in editing tapes and also would like to work on outreach to the Latino community.

Bob is getting copies of interviews to the interviewees. The older ones have been duplicated for distribution.

Archives:

We need a file cabinet for storage of interview tapes and documents. They are organized and labeled but “find list” has been lost. If not found soon, Bob and Cheryl will do it over.

Budget:

We have $69 left on Patricia’s demand warrant for Video Solutions. We will use it for copies of SLNCC board member interviews.

It was moved, seconded, passed to spend $700 of this year’s allocation for archive maintenance, transfers, and outreach. Patricia will present this motion to SLNCC board along with previous motion to buy a laptop.

New business:

Survey LA is a City Planning program to research and identify historic places, structures, etc in Los Angeles for future research and documentation and is asking for input by local people. They will send a speaker with a presentation on the project to explain it and solicit ideas. The meeting agreed to suggest they come to a SLNCC meeting. Lynne will contact them with meeting information and see what can be arranged. (SLNCC meets 1st Wednesdays at Micheltorena School, 7:00 pm.)

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
