More Road Diets Ahead?

According to the Atwater Chamber of Commerce, L.A.’s Department of Transportation (LADOT) will hold a second public meeting on Wednesday, July 19, to review plans to implement some form of “road diet” on Fletcher Drive between Riverside Drive and San Fernando Road. Two LADOT proposals, described as safety improvement plans, would reduce vehicular traffic from the current four lanes to a two-lane configuration. On June 21, LADOT applied for a statutory exemption to limit a full Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which would examine the project’s impact on the community and detail any adverse effects. Both proposed “road diets” would be on a stretch of Fetcher Drive, east of Glendale Boulevard in Silver Lake, which serves as a major artery to the I-5 and SR-2. The meeting will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on July 19 at Atwater Avenue Elementary School, 3271 Silver Lake Boulevard. Parking is available at two lots on Perlita Avenue.
