Community Discussion on September 9 to Address Ageism

The second in a series of community conversations exploring how “Words Can Help…and Hurt” will ask attendees to consider if “Ageism is the Most Widespread “Ism?” The event will take place from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, at the Silver Lake Library. Media and aging experts will lead a discussion on why words and images that often discriminate against the 46-plus million Americans who are 65 and older are acceptable in popular culture and everyday media–and why the issue is seldom discussed.

The event is co-sponsored by the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council and the Silver Lake Library. Lisa Palombi, manager of the Silver Lake Branch, Los Angeles Public Library, will recommend a resource list for additional information on this topic.
