Charles Fleming, noted author of Secret Stairs: A Walking Guide to the Historic Staircases of Los Angeles, will take fans on a special tour of four iconic Silver Lake stairways, starting at 9:00 a.m., Sunday, April 8. The walk is sponsored by the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council and presented by the SLNC Green Committee, which is co-chaired by John Wingler and Bob Lisauskas. The guided tour will begin at the front of Allesandro Elementary School and take in the Peru, Walcott, North Alvarado and Corralitas steps, swing past the residence of the masterful engraver Paul Landacre, and one of Los Angeles’ last remaining pedestrian “subways,” and find itself on the Red Car Corralitas Trail at 10:00 a.m. for a presentation on the SLNC’s Adopt A Stair program. Current stair adopters will be recognized at the event, and drinks and snacks will be provided. For more information about the tour, email green@silverlakenc.org.
