50+ Committee Names New Co-chairs; Votes to Change Committee Name

Nina Sorkin and Pat Tashma elected co-chairs of senior advocacy committee.

At a meeting on August 21, longtime Silver Lake residents Pat Tashma and Nina Sorkin were elected co-chairs of the 50+ Committee. In a separate motion the committee unanimously voted to change its name to Mature Adult Advocates, to reflect the committee’s mission to help older residents stay in the community and age and thrive in place. The SLNC Governing Board will consider the motion on September 5.

The new co-chairs are two of the most active women in Silver Lake.  Both are breast cancer survivors and have had leadership positions with the American Cancer Society Relay For Life for more than 14 years. In addition, they have been involved with the Griffith Park Adult Community Center and volunteer at the annual Spring Faire. They have also coordinated the CERT training sponsored by SLNC at Bellevue Recreation Center. Pat and Nina noted they would advocate, engage and give voice to Silver Lake’s mature stakeholders.
