Silver Lake Residents Call for Comprehensive Traffic Safety Plan

Concerned Silver Lake residents packed the Silver Lake Library community room at the recent SLNC Transportation and Neighborhood Safety meeting to express their support for a comprehensive traffic safety plan for Silver Lake. Following vigorous discussion, a motion was adopted asking the SLNC Governing Board to sponsor a community meeting to review the status of CD 4 Councilman Ryu’s request for legal action against the WAZE app and its harmful impact on our neighborhood residents. The motion was amended to incorporate the potential of a Comprehensive Silver Lake Traffic Safety Plan into the proposed community meeting.

Current co-chair Tony Michaelis and Paul Emmonds, medic and longtime Silver Lake resident, were elected committee co-chairs during the August 8 meeting.

In addition, LAPD Senior Lead Officer, Northeast Division Traffic Safety, Lawrence Henderson provided an overview of traffic safety issues and Senior Lead Officer for Silver Lake Gina Chovan noted that there had been increased property (home, car) burglaries in the area. Both officers emphasized that it is extremely important to report all incidents, as LAPD uses allocates police patrols and resources based on reporting. CALL 911 for urgent/emergent incidents, including prowlers, suspicious activity; for non-urgent reports call 877 275-5273, 311 or file a Police Report Online at LAPDONLINE.ORG.
