WAZE Impact and Silver Lake Traffic Safety

The negative impact of mobile apps, such as WAZE, on traffic safety in Silver Lake is a hot topic that will be addressed at a community meeting on March 20, hosted and facilitated by the SLNC Transportation and Neighborhood Safety Committee. According to a 2018 LADOT report, mobile mapping applications create issues, including increased cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets, routing users to make unprotected left turns on busy arterial roadways and directing users to drive on steep streets with which they are unfamiliar. Co-chair Tony Michaelis noted that the committee will collect information about specific traffic safety problems on local streets from attendees, which will be shared with LADOT. The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at the Ivanhoe Elementary School auditorium.
