History Collective: Preserving the history of Silver Lake

The History Collective Committee is dedicated to preserving the oral histories of long-term residents, business owners, artists and other interesting residents of Silver Lake to create an archive of the unique history of our neighborhood for future generations. This month’s featured interview is with Nina Sorkin, who was presented with the SLNC History Collective award last month to honor her many years of community service to Silver Lake. Nina and her husband Al moved to Silver Lake in 1967. Since then Nina has volunteered and worked for events and causes such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, GPACC, the Bellevue Park Advisory Board, the Commission for Children and Families, the SLNC as its election chair and many more. She’s worked tirelessly to make Silver Lake a better place to live. The History Collective conducted an interview with Nina and Al on April 30, 2013. Enjoy the wonderful conversation with them as they talk about their lives and passions.
