SLNC Governing Board Appoints Ben Cassorla As New Region 2 Representative

Ben Cassorla was appointed to a vacant Region 2 Governing Board seat at our November 6th Meeting. He joins Barbara Ringuette in representing this area of our community. Get to know Ben a little better below and please come out and say hi to him and the rest of the board at our January 8th Governing Board Meeting!

Congratulations on being appointed to Region 2! Tell the community a little bit about yourself.

I’m so very excited to represent Region 2, a small portion of Silver Lake that I spend a ton of time in, whether its walking my daughter to school, working on music at my studio, or eating nachos at Mariela’s on Sunset. I’ve been a musician my entire life, but have spent my spare time volunteering for homelessness organizations and speaking at Neighborhood Council Meetings around the city to advocate for more supportive and affordable housing.

What’s an issue specific to Region 2 that you look forward to tackling? And how about one that affects the entire community?

I’m most excited about bringing together the housed and un-housed neighbors of Region 2 so that we can all share in the benefits of this beautiful neighborhood. There’s space for everyone, and I believe avenues towards getting as many people housed as possible. And more than anything, I love that I have an even better excuse to get to know my neighbors.

Across Los Angeles, I look forward to bringing as many people as possible into local politics. Whether its advocating for causes or resolving problems, I’d love to see more people at our meetings, and hear as many voices as possible. To that end, please feel free to reach out to me ( with any concerns/ideas/thoughts for the Region.

Describe your perfect Silver Lake day. What do you do and where do you go?

I may have hinted at most of this in my first answer, but it probably starts with an everything bagel with cream cheese at Maury’s, time spent walking/biking around Bellevue Park with my family, nachos supreme with al pastor at Mariela’s, and walking somewhere like Silverlake Ramen or las Glorias del Buen Comer for dinner.
